Kimberly Fasula, PhD, MS, MPH, RDH, PHDH

Dr. Kim Fasula is the Director of Assessment, Interprofessional Education, and Distinction Programs at Chicago Medical School and has dedicated her career to advancing healthcare, education, and access to care. With more than 30 years of experience in dentistry and healthcare, she has served as a clinician, administrator, researcher, public health advocate, and educator. Dr. Fasula studied Biology at Loyola University Chicago before completing her RDH training at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry. Her commitment to lifelong learning led her to earn both a Master of Science and Master of Public Health, with a focus in epidemiology, from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, followed by a PhD in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois Chicago College of Medicine.

Dr. Fasula has extensive experience in health professions education and serves as a content expert in oral-systemic health, interprofessional education, assessment, and curriculum development. Throughout her career, she has taught and mentored dental, medical, and other health professions students and residents. She has served as course director for numerous courses, including Head and Neck Anatomy, Oral Pathology, Histology and Embryology, Medical Emergencies, Bioethics, Foundations for Interprofessional Practice, and Foundations of Medical Education.

As a researcher and scholar, Dr. Fasula has led and collaborated on projects focused on clinical outcomes, interprofessional practice, health professions education, and healthcare access. Her work includes serving as principal investigator on a clinical trial examining associations between oral health and cardiovascular disease, as well as educational research exploring collaborative practice in healthcare settings. She remains actively engaged in educational scholarship through CMS, Advocate Health, and national organizations.

In addition to her role at CMS, Dr. Fasula leads a dental-medical integration program within the Department of Dentistry at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she works to improve access to care for underserved children and individuals with special healthcare needs. In 2020, she was appointed by Governor J.B. Pritzker to serve on the Illinois Board of Dentistry, where she contributed to matters related to professional licensure, policy, and disciplinary review. She also serves as a dental licensure examiner and is actively involved in professional organizations, boards, and committees at the state and national levels.

Outside of work, Dr. Fasula enjoys golf, yoga, travel, and spending time with her family and two golden retrievers.
